VSO delighted as aid bill passes through the House of Commons

Welcoming the news that Michael Moore’s Private Members’ bill to enshrine the cross-party commitment to spend 0.7% of GNI on international development into law has passed to its next stage, Emma Harrison, Head of Communication and Engagement said:

“We’re delighted that this bill has passed on to the next stage. We recognize that budgets are tight here in the UK, but this country’s international development work is something we should all be proud of.”

“Aid enables people to live productive independent lives and countries to become stronger partners in the global economy. Every day, VSO volunteers, partners and beneficiaries around the world experience the progress achieved through UK aid and we’re pleased that MPs from across the House have turned up today to keep their promise to some of the most vulnerable people. Enshrining this commitment into law means that we can focus the discussions on how this money is spent, and help countries to plan sustainably for the future.”
