The board of VSO International has announced the appointment of Jim Emerson as chief executive, on a fixed term contract. Jim, who is currently Secretary General of ChildFund Alliance and a board member of the International Civil Society Centre, has more than 30 years of experience in international development and humanitarian work.
Mari Simonen, chair of VSO’s International Board, said; “VSO is delighted to have secured the talents of an experienced development expert as Jim to lead the charity over the next few months while we continue our search for a permanent chief executive expected to be in post by the end of 2014.”
Jim Emerson said, “VSO has long been an organisation I admire. I’ve seen their work first-hand in developing countries and have benefited from highly-skilled and motivated volunteers. I’m passionate about supporting and building local capacity among non-profit and civil society organisations and I hope this appointment will allow me to focus on this aspect of bringing people together to fight poverty.”
Jim will take over from Marg Mayne who is stepping down as chief executive after 5 years to take up a new role at UK-based social enterprise, My Time Active.
