VSO appoints Angela Salt as UK Director

International development charity VSO today (14 November) announced the appointment of Angela Salt as VSO UK Director.

Angela Salt comes to VSO from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, where she was Head of Nations and Regions.

VSO Chief Executive Marg Mayne said:

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Angela Salt to the role of VSO UK Director.

“In her role for the London 2012 Olympics, Angela was hugely successful at making people right across the UK feel part of an event that touched the whole world. We’re confident she will help VSO to engage people in the UK with our work in some of the world’s poorest countries – recruiting new supporters, campaigners and volunteers.”

Angela Salt said:

“I’m very excited to be joining VSO. It has an impressive reputation built on decades of work fighting poverty through volunteers.

“In the UK, VSO has an amazing resource in the thousands of people who have lived and worked among the world’s poorest communities on a VSO placement.  I’m looking forward to hearing their stories and helping VSO harness them to get more people involved in fighting global poverty.”

Angela Salt has worked previously at Nesta as Executive Director of Corporate Communication; as Director of Communication at the Electoral Commission; as a Director at Grayling, a leading communications consultancy; and at the Millennium Commission as Communication Director. She was awarded the OBE in 2000 for public service.

VSO is a development organisation that fights poverty through volunteers, bringing people together to share skills and knowledge. VSO volunteers work in whatever fields are necessary to fight the forces that keep people in poverty – from education and health through to helping people learn the skills to make a living. In doing so, they invest in local people, so the impact they make endures long after their placement ends. VSO recruits skilled volunteers from countries in the global north and global south, as well as supporting the growth of volunteering within developing countries.
