VSO appoints Andrew Webb as Business Development Executive Director

Andrew Webb Business Development Director | VSO

20/11/15: VSO, the international development organisation which works through volunteers, has appointed Andrew Webb to the role of Business Development Executive Director, completing the four-person Executive Board.

Andrew has over 20 years of experience working in international development, most recently as CEO at SolarAid, an NGO that owns the biggest social enterprise in Africa selling household solar lights.  In the course of his career, Andrew has worked on public health and community development projects in a range of countries including Ethiopia and Tanzania; he was the start-up CEO of Street Child United, a global campaign for the rights of street children; director of development at International Alert; and, fittingly, started his international development career as a volunteer.

Dr. Philip Goodwin, CEO of VSO said: “This is a vital role for us as we seek to increase our impact and influence, and grow our global income. Andrew has first-hand volunteering and field experience in development as well as invaluable private sector experience from roles with Proctor & Gamble and BUPA, all of which I think will serve VSO very well as we move forward.”

Andrew Webb said: “It seems to me there has never been a more crucial time to be engaged in the work of bringing people together, sharing skills and building capabilities and making the world a fairer place for all, a world in which everyone gets to live a life with dignity and opportunity. That I get to join VSO International at this precise time feels like a very great privilege. I know I am joining a great team and look forward to contributing in whatever way I can.”
